ASSESSING PERSONAL FACTORS AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIAN POLYTECHNICS

This paper examines the inuence of personal factors as the indicators that effect both
high employee and organizational performance which has been the central concern of
organizations for decades. The study employed quantitative research, whereby data was
analyzed using SPSS and PLS-SEM. Also the study used cross sectional method on 302
participants from ve polytechnics in three state of North West Nigerian region. The
paper revealed that self-esteem (SE) and perceived control (PC) had signicance and
positive inuence on the employees (lecturers) performance. However, optimism (OP) had
a negative inuence on the employee performance (EP).This paper therefore recommend
that the management of polytechnics should pay more attention in hiring lecturers with
high personal factors. And let lecturers with poor performance leave the polytechnics or
convert them to non-academics than wasting polytechnic resources to retain them.
